Cha Eun Woo facing tax evasion allegations of ~ 13.6 million USD
by Solim-Yoon · allkpopASTRO member/actor Cha Eun Woo is facing allegations of tax evasion.
According to an exclusive media outlet report on January 22 KST, the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intensive tax audit over Cha Eun Woo's earnings in the first half of 2025. The Tax Office suspected that Cha Eun Woo had set up a "paper company" with his mother, then signed a service contract with his management, Fantagio, in order to apply a lower (20%) corporate tax on part of his earnings.
The Tax Office is currently investigating the distribution of Cha Eun Woo's earnings through three channels - Fantagio, the company set up by Cha Eun Woo and his mother, and Cha Eun Woo himself. It's suspected that Cha Eun Woo may have evaded as much as 20 billion KRW (~ 13.6 million USD) in taxes by channeling part of earnings to the "paper company" and paying corporate tax, instead of private tax.
Following the audit, Cha Eun Woo's side has submitted a reevaluation, arguing that his company "is formally registered as an entertainment agency and is not a paper company."
Meanwhile, Cha Eun Woo enlisted as an active duty soldier to fulfill his mandatory military service duties in July of last year.
