Na Hong Jin’s 'Hope' unveils first stills, teasing intense suspense with Hwang Jung Min and Jo In Sung

Director Na Hong Jin’s upcoming film 'Hope' has unveiled its first official still images, offering a tense preview of its atmospheric storytelling and high intensity drama.

After being selected for the Competition section of the '79th Cannes Film Festival,' 'Hope' has also confirmed its North American release through NEON, raising global anticipation. On April 30, the production released six first-look stills for the first time.

The images highlight the film’s strong visual identity and immersive mise-en-scène. In one still, Bum Seok, played by Hwang Jung Min, is shown taking cover behind a damaged wall inside a dark space, holding a weapon while sensing an unknown presence outside a fogged glass window. Another still features Sung Ki, played by Jo In Sung, aiming a gun deep in a forest, heightening tension and uncertainty.

In a separate scene, Sung Ae, played by Jung Ho Yeon, appears in a destroyed village area, holding a firearm while sitting in a police vehicle and reacting with shock, suggesting rising chaos across the town.

Set in Hopo Port near the DMZ, 'Hope' follows Bum Seok, the head of a local administrative office, who hears reports from young residents that a tiger has appeared nearby. As panic spreads through the village, the community is forced to confront an increasingly unbelievable situation.

The film depicts a group of residents pushed into survival mode as they struggle to protect their town. Bum Seok, Sung Ki, and Sung Ae are all portrayed in extreme circumstances, from emergency calls to armed standoffs and sudden encounters with danger.

Na Hong Jin is known for his intense direction, detailed world-building, and strong visual storytelling. He has spent a long time developing this project, building anticipation for his return. With its world premiere scheduled at Cannes next month, 'Hope' is set to be revealed to global audiences before its theatrical release this summer.
