by Minsoo-Kim · allkpopSinger and actress IU shared warmth at year’s end by donating 200 million KRW(~140,000 USD) to support vulnerable communities.
On December 31 KST, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced, “IU donated a total of 200 million KRW under the name ‘IUaeNa’ (IU + Uaena) to mark the end of the year.” The donation will be used to support various underprivileged groups, including single mothers, young adults preparing for independence, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
The funds were distributed equally, with 50 million KRW each donated to the Korean Unwed Mothers Families Association, National Center for the Rights of the Child, Snail of Love, and the Wooyang Foundation. The donations will be used to support single mothers facing economic and social hardship, help young adults who have aged out of care cover initial independence expenses, provide cochlear implant surgeries and hearing aids for people with hearing impairments, and supply food for elderly individuals at risk of winter hunger.
IU has consistently practiced philanthropy under the name ‘IUaeNa’ on meaningful occasions such as her debut anniversary, birthday, and year-end holidays, spreading positive influence through sustained giving. Earlier this March, she donated 200 million KRW to support wildfire relief efforts in the Gyeongsang region and improve firefighters’ working conditions. On Children’s Day, she contributed 150 million KRW for children and adolescents, and she has also donated 200 million KRW each on her birthday and debut anniversary to support vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, IU is currently busy filming her upcoming drama ‘Perfect Crown’.
