Perez Hilton, 48, was hospitalized after multiple people called police over a livestream that showed him harming himself.

Miami-Dade deputies responded to Hilton’s home on August 4 after several people reported an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media. The sheriff’s office said the person was “safely recovered and transported” to a local hospital and is receiving treatment.

Deputies spoke with family members at the scene to confirm Hilton was alone inside. A disturbing but unverified video circulating online appears to show him in distress and holding a sharp item.

“In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication,” the sheriff’s office said.

Hilton, born Mario Lavandeira Jr., built his celebrity gossip site into a massive audience after its 2004 launch and drew backlash from stars like Jennifer Aniston, Miley Cyrus, Khloe Kardashian and Lady Gaga. In June he announced he’d moved back to Miami with his mother and his three children, ages 13, 11 and 8, all born through surrogacy.
