Otukpo LGA, Benue State - Gunmen have killed the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Ardo Muhammad, and one other person, identified as Yakubu Isah in Benue State.
The Miyetti Allah chairman and Isah were killed in Otukpo Local Government Area of the state on Friday, June 26, 2026.
The tragic incident has triggered tension in parts of Otukpo and neighbouring Ohinmini Local Government Area.

As reported by The Punch, the gunmen reportedly ambushed MACBAN’s vehicle and killed him and the other occupant.
The MACBAN chairman and his companion were travelling back after attending a peace meeting allegedly convened by the Divisional Police Officer of Ohinmini with leaders of the Ayunne community in Ohinmini.
Miyetti Allah chairman’s eldest son made this known to newsmen in a telephone interview late on Friday, June 36, 2026.
The Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, said there was palpable tension in the community and other neighbouring communities in the local government area.
“It is true that the state chairman of MACBAN was killed within Otukpo LGA this afternoon. The killing has raised tension in the community and environs.”
Ogiri urged residents of the local government area to remain calm. The LG chairman said security operatives were on top of the situation.
The Chairman of Ohinmini Local Government Area, Adole Gabriel, also confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the MACBAN chairman was ambushed and killed after attending a peace meeting convened by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)
“I was told that the meeting was fruitful and, at the end of the meeting, the man (MACBAN chairman) left. Unfortunately, I learnt that some gunmen ambushed his vehicle at Okudu community in Otukpo LGA and killed him with one other person.”
The state police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said an investigation was ongoing.

The MACBAN's chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, condemned the unprovoked attack, calling for justice against the perpetrators.
A survivor recounted his narrow escape from gunmen, highlighting the ongoing violence against herders in the region.
Gunmen ambush, kill 3 herdsmen in Plateau
Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that gunmen ambushed and killed three herdsmen in the Barkin Ladi area of Plateau State.
The victims were attacked while returning home from Qur'an Tafsir in the Dorowa community.
The Berom community leaders deny involvement and call for a thorough investigation into the incident.
