In the throwback Channels TV clip, the Nigerian singer pushed back against the widely held belief that his former record label boss is solely responsible for his rise to stardom.

Wande Coal made it clear that, in his view, the credit belongs first to God and also to a collaboration between two talented individuals.

In the resurfaced interview, Wande Coal, who was recently involved in a heated online clash with Davido, said:

"God is the reason for my success. I give all the credits to him because he was the one who brought me out and made me successful. Some people say it was Don Jazzy that brought me out but I feel like it was just two talented people working together to achieve success. So, it's not by one man. It's God," he said.

Wande Coal's rise through Mo'Hits

The Afrobeats singer's path into the industry is the stuff of Nigerian music folklore.

In 2006, Don Jazzy and D'banj attended a campus event at the University of Lagos, where they came across a then-unknown Wande Coal performing.

The impression he left was strong enough that he was signed to their record label, Mo'Hits, the very next day.

Wande Coal's breakthrough came in 2007 when he featured prominently on the Mo'Hits compilation album, Curriculum Vitae.

Two years later, he released his debut solo album, Mushin 2 Mo'Hits, which cemented his place among Nigeria's top artists.

Wande Coal's life after Mo'Hits

When Don Jazzy and D'banj went their separate ways in 2012, Wande Coal followed Don Jazzy to his new venture, Mavin Records.

His time there was brief; he departed in 2013 to establish his own imprint, Black Diamond Entertainment, taking full creative and business control of his career.
