A dispatch rider lost his life on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after a crash involving two trucks at Ijesha, on the inward Mile 2 corridor in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.

The agency said its Eagle Response Team was deployed to the scene, where it found three parties involved: a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV, and the dispatch rider, Punch reports.

What Caused the Ijesha Crash

According to LASEMA's preliminary findings, both truck drivers were competing for right of way when the FAW truck struck the Iveco truck. The impact pushed the Iveco truck into the dispatch rider, hitting him from behind. The rider died as a result of his injuries.

"Sadly, the dispatch rider lost his life in the incident. Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Okota Division evacuated the remains of the deceased and deposited them at the morgue for identification and further necessary procedures," the agency said.

Both trucks were removed from the main carriageway and parked in a designated layby to restore traffic flow along the route. LASEMA said the operation was concluded successfully and the road was declared safe for motorists.

LASEMA Calls for Responsible Driving

Oke-Osanyintolu extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul. He also reaffirmed the Lagos State Government's commitment to protecting all road users, with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as motorcyclists and pedestrians.

LASEMA used the incident to call on commercial drivers across the state to stop reckless behaviour behind the wheel.

"Road safety remains a collective responsibility and strict adherence to traffic regulations is essential to preventing avoidable loss of lives on Lagos roads," the agency said.

The agency added that it remained committed to prompt emergency response and inter-agency cooperation to protect lives and property across Lagos.
