Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Namadi, the commissioner for transportation in Kano, has announced his resignation from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration, citing public concerns over his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug dealer, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

The report indicated that Namadi's resignation came after the governor received the report of the investigating committee that probed his involvement in the controversial bail of Danwawu.

The development was considered a major step in the government's commitment to transparency, integrity and public accountability.

When did the Kano commissioner resign?

Namadi's resignation was disclosed in a statement signed by Governor Yusuf's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday morning, August 6, stating that the commissioner's action was based on the overriding interest of the public and the sensitive nature of the allegation.

The former commissioner was quoted in the statement:

“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behooves me to take this step, painful as it may be."

Why the Kano commissioner resigned

He stressed that his innocence is intact, but he would not ignore the weight of public perception as well as the need to protect the values that the administration had built collectively.

Namadi then expressed his profound gratitude to Governor Yusuf for giving him the opportunity to serve the state and reaffirmed his dedication to the principles of responsible leadership and good governance.

The former commissioner described himself as a good citizen who has strived to protect, preserve and uphold the trust, which he had worked to instil in the state. He then vowed to remain loyal to the ideals that brought Governor Yusuf into office.

Governor Yusuf accepts commissioner's resignation letter

Tofa further disclosed that Governor Yusuf has graciously accepted Namadi's resignation letter and wished him success in his future endeavours.

He also reiterated the commitment of his administration to discipline, justice, and the fight against any drug-related matters, as well as social vices affecting the youths and broader society.

Governor Yusuf then asked all political appointees to be cautious in their actions and dealings, particularly on sensitive matters and seek permission from higher authority before engaging in issue of public interest.

Kano emir visits Buhari's family
