Hezbollah pager explosions: 14 dead and over 3000 injured across Lebanon

Israel and its intelligence agency Mossad have been accused of orchestrating a series of explosions involving thousands of pagers in Lebanon that have now killed 14 people and injured nearly 3,000 after a second day of explosions in Beirut and other cities in Lebanon.

The explosions, which targeted radio communication devices used by Hezbollah to evade mobile phone hacking, resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals, including a young girl, and caused injuries to nearly 3,000 people, including the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani.

Reports from Israeli and Western media outlets suggest collaboration between Mossad and the Israeli military in planting explosives within the devices, while Israeli authorities have chosen to remain silent, with rumors circulating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed silence on the matter.

The strategic impact of the explosions is highlighted by the exposure of numerous Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon, creating opportunities for Israeli operatives to gather intelligence as the injured were treated in hospitals.

The scale and method of the attack, characterized by Iran as ‘mass murder,’ are unprecedented, although Israel has a history of carrying out assassinations and sabotage operations over several decades.

Despite facing condemnation and heightened regional tensions, Israel has been linked to the assassinations of prominent figures, including Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh and top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr, whose deaths have led to a delay in the prospects of a ceasefire in Gaza.

The assassinations involved an airstrike in Beirut’s suburbs resulting in casualties, as well as the targeted killing of Haniyeh and his bodyguard in Tehran, with details suggesting the use of advanced weaponry and intelligence tactics.

Israeli sources have hinted at the use of sophisticated weaponry and potential intelligence-gathering methods in these operations, such as the planting of bombs or the exploitation of communication vulnerabilities.

In addition to these recent incidents, Mossad has been linked to the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, whose killing involved the use of a satellite-guided machine gun smuggled into Iran and set up for a targeted attack near Tehran.

The assassination followed a pattern of targeted killings of Iranian nuclear scientists and sabotage attacks against Iran’s nuclear facilities, with Israel being implicated in multiple major incidents, including the Natanz installations in Isfahan.
