Filmmaker Tony Gilroy has officially unveiled the trailer for his upcoming drama Behemoth!, starring Pedro Pascal as a classical cellist returning to Los Angeles to score motion pictures. The project marks the director’s first feature film in 14 years following a celebrated reception at the New York Film Festival.
The formally ambitious, character-driven narrative chronicles two decades in the life of cellist Alex Serian (Pascal), exploring the unresolved reasons behind his departure and return. Constructed around a nonlinear, music-led framework where musical cues trigger memories spanning 20 years, the film consistently intercuts between live orchestral performances and Alex’s real life. Rather than serving as passive background accompaniment, the score functions as an active narrative device reflecting his personal turning points.
To establish the film’s complex musical architecture, Gilroy enlisted nine distinct composers—Michael Giacchino, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Michael Abels, Henry Jackman, Emily Bear, Lukas Frank, Nami Melumad, and Brandon Roberts—each scoring a different fictional movie within the story. The ensemble cast features Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor, Alexa Swinton, Will Arnett, and Matthew Lillard, arriving as Gilroy’s first feature since 2012’s The Bourne Legacy and his acclaimed tenure helming Andor.
Behemoth! premieres in theaters on December 4.
