Olivia Rodrigo Sings Her ‘Stupid Song’ in Central Park and the Corner Store in New Music Video
· Rolling StoneOlivia Rodrigo knows the true magic of New York City lies in the way its pace camouflages public crash outs. In the music video for her latest single “Stupid Song,” the singer-songwriter turns Central Park and a crammed convenience store into a confessional booth.
“New York City’s never looked so blue/My friends are smoking blunts in the bathroom/They say that honest love is a cage that makes you feel free,” Rodrigo sings on the opening verse as she leaves an apartment in the city and takes to the streets with a crew of ballerinas. “And all the girls at this party are so cool/That’s never been a thing that I could do/But I can’t help but imagine what you say when you speak with me.”
“Stupid Song” appears as the second track on Rodrigo’s newly-released third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. It follows the release of lead singles “Drop Dead” and “The Cure.”

“A major strength of the album is how much Rodrigo’s storytelling has matured,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the album. “For a girl who went stratospheric belting about teenage heartbreak on ‘Drivers License’ at 17, there’s new wisdom as she comes to the brutal realization that you can adore someone more than anything and still have to let them go.”
Rodrigo is the latest to join the ranks of people who’ve wandered the Upper West Side wondering when love would start making sense. “Stupid Song” and the other 12 tracks that appear on You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love just so happen to be the perfect soundtrack for it.
