Leonardo DiCaprio Donates $1 Million to Los Angeles Fire Relief Efforts

Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged $1 million to foundations and organizations dealing with the Los Angeles fires.

“The Los Angeles wildfires are devastating our city,” the actor wrote Wednesday on his Instagram Stories. The donation, made in partnership with Re:wild’s Rapid Response Program, will “support both urgent needs and post-fire recovery efforts.”

Among those receiving aid from the donation include the L.A. Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund.

The aforementioned organizations are “on the frontlines providing much-needed resources to our first responders and firefighters, and the people, animals and communities who need it most,” DiCaprio wrote.

As the Hollywood Reporter notes, DiCaprio is a longtime resident of Malibu, one of the areas impacted by the Palisades fire that continues to devastate the Los Angeles area; as of Wednesday morning, the Palisades fire was still only 19 percent contained, KTLA reported.

DiCaprio is the latest Hollywood star to contribute to relief efforts: Jamie Lee Curtis previously pledged $1 million, while Eva Longoria’s foundation committed $1 million to the Latino Community Foundation.

Earlier today, the Eagles announced they would donate $2.5 million to the upcoming FireAid benefit concert in Los Angeles, scheduled to take place on Jan. 30 at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome. The lineup for the show has not yet been announced.

At least 25 people have been killed and more than 12,000 buildings have been burned to the ground or damaged during the blazes.
