From filmmaker Marina Zenovich, who won an Emmy Award for her 2008 Roman Polanski documentary, I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not is billed as a “bold and deeply human portrait of one of Hollywood’s great enigmas.”

The doc intersperses archival footage and rare home movies with new interviews with Chase and his family. Many of the actor’s longtime friends and collaborators are also featured in the film, including Dan Aykroyd, Beverly D’Angelo, Goldie Hawn, Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and Martin Short.

The film will also touch on Chase’s tumultuous exit from the NBC sitcom, Community, in 2012, along with an update on his health, after the comedian was hospitalized in 2021 for heart failure.

As a press release declares, “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not charts Chevy Chase’s rise from breakout Saturday Night Live phenomenon to box-office royalty, thoughtfully examining the complexities and challenges that have shaped his legacy. I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not is a raw and riveting look at fame, fallout, and the fine line between genius and self-destruction.”

The new documentary arrives at the end of another holiday season, where revelers no doubt rewatched Chase’s memorable turn in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The family comedy just celebrated its 36th anniversary.
