Jack Black Joins the Cast of Weezer’s Upcoming Movie
· Rolling StoneJack Black will be part of Weezer‘s mysterious new movie. News of the Tenacious D musician’s involvement was confirmed by frontman Rivers Cuomo, who shared an AI-generated film poster on band’s Discord server.
The poster features photos of Cuomo and Black, as well as the band, and reads: “Weezer costarring Jack Black.” Cuomo added in a caption, “Nope, it’s real.” The collaboration is not totally surprising as Tenacious D toured with Weezer back in 2001.
Not much is known about Weezer’s forthcoming film, which they announced during their recent set at Coachella. “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in L.A. the last couple weeks,” Cuomo told the crowd before breaking out “Undone (The Sweater Song). “But when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?,’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
A report by entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider suggests that Keanu Reeves is also involved in the movie as its villain, although the band has yet to confirm that. Sneider reported that the film is a mockumentary in the same vein as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. He noted that Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, Juliette Lewis, and Ben Schwartz were also cast.

When Weezer wrapped their Voyage to the Blue Album tour in Los Angeles in October 2024, Schwartz was present and asked the crowd to help out with a movie shoot. “Now, there’s a big fight where Weezer is fighting these big villains,” he said. “And what’s going to happen now is they’re going to follow me, and I’m going to be fighting in different areas. And I’m going to say, ‘Someone throws a punch at someone from Weezer,’ and you’ll react to that. And then I say, ‘And Weezer kicks their butt!,’ and you react to that.”
Weezer will next take the stage May 3 at the Lovin’ Life Music Fest in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have a steady calendar of festival gigs in America and Europe throughout the summer and fall, wrapping up Oct. 19 at When We Were Young in Las Vegas. The band is also confirmed as part of the lineup for Riot Fest’s 20th anniversary in September.
