‘Hacks’ Final Season Just Set a Jaw-Dropping Record for Emmy Nominations

· Rolling Stone

Hacks set the record for most Emmy nominations for a single season of a TV comedy on Wednesday. The series, which outpaced The Studio and The Bear, received 24 nominations for its fifth and final season, breaking the record Schitt’s Creek set for a final season in 2020 when it received 15 nominations, according to The Wrap. (The Pitt, incidentally, earned 25 nominations this year.)

Most notably, Hacks is up for Outstanding Comedy Series, and several actors received recognition for their work on the show. Jean Smart is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, while Paul W. Downs was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category. Meanwhile, the show’s Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter are nominated in the same category, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Additionally, Hacks: Bit by Bit received a nomination for Outstanding Shortform Non-fiction or Reality Series, though that doesn’t count as part of the show’s record.

The winners will be announced at the 78th Emmy Awards in L.A. on Sept. 14. Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay will be the host.

In 2020, Schitt’s Creek won nine of the 15 Emmys it was nominated for, setting a record for wins. The Bear and The Studio each previously received 23 nominations in back-to-back years, making this the third year for that record to be broken or tied, according to The Wrap.

Hacks, which premiered in 2021, previously received between 14 and 17 nominations for each of its previous seasons. So far, it has won 12 Emmys, including several wins for Smart, one for Einbinder, and a 2024 win for Outstanding Comedy Series.
