Discord will require you to verify your real age to unlock all features
All Discord users are now required to verify their age. Previously, this feature was only available to users in Australia and the UK, where age verification is required by law. So, what should you know about it?
Certain content will be unavailable
For your information, all users will be required to verify their age starting this March. If they fail to do so, their account will be marked as a minor, meaning that certain content will no longer be accessible in a manner that is age-appropriate.
Additionally, to verify age, users will need to take a selfie or submit a government-certified ID photo to Discord. As an additional security measure, Discord will also analyse conversation patterns to verify real age in cases where a minor is using an adult's identity. Discord says selfies are stored on the user's device while ID photos are deleted by the vendor after age verification to maintain privacy.
Moreover, restrictions on underage users have been a popular trend since Australia introduced them last December. Malaysia, the UK, France and Sweden are among those that will ban individuals under 16 from accessing social media platforms on the grounds of protecting their safety online.
