Top 4 iPhone 17 rumours that we could see at the Apple Event 2025

Apple's annual September keynote is nearly here, and all eyes are on what could be the most design-forward iPhone lineup in years. With the event slated for 9 September 2025, leaks and insider reports suggest the iPhone 17 series will introduce bold new form factors, upgraded internals, and a fresh take on accessories. Here are the top 4 iPhone 17 rumours that we could see at the Apple Event 2025.

#1 The iPhone 17 Air

Rumours of the iPhone 17 Air began as early as before the Apple Event in 2024. Over the past few months of consistent news and leaks on the rumour mill, there are hints of a strong possibility for the newest Air model being added to the lineup. The name suggests that it is a radically slim device expected to measure just 5.5mm thick - potentially the thinnest iPhone ever.

Designed for users who prioritise aesthetics and portability, the Air model is rumoured to feature a single 48MP rear camera, a smaller 2800mAh battery, and a sleek aluminium frame. It's positioned to rival Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge and could start at $949 (~RM4K).

On top of that, there are rumours that the iPhone 17 Air could replace the Plus model. This is very possible, since the iPhone Plus models did not do that well over the years. With this, the iPhone 17 series should consist of the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

#2 New Camera Island and Zoom Boost on the Pro Models

Next, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to ditch titanium in favour of aluminium frames, with a redesigned rear layout featuring a full-width camera island. The camera system may include a new 48MP telephoto lens with up to 8x optical zoom, and the displays could receive an anti-glare coating similar to the iPad Pro.

The rear camera redesign rumours are as popular as the influx of iPhone 17 Air ones, so this should be exciting to see. It's something "new" after minimal changes for years, albeit very inspired by the recent Google Pixel lineup. The pricing is expected to start at $1050 (~RM4.4K) for the Pro and $1250 (~RM5.2K) for the Pro Max, and we may see a price increase in the Malaysian market as well.

#3 Standard iPhone 17 Finally Gets ProMotion

As for the base model, the iPhone 17 may finally join the high refresh rate club with a 120Hz ProMotion display. It's expected to be powered by Apple's new A19 chip and launch with iOS 26, which introduces a refined "Liquid Glass" UI design language. Storage may start at 256GB, doubling the previous base capacity, to keep up with the rising inflation costs.

#4 New Colours and Accessories

This is a minor one, but Apple is expected to refresh its accessory lineup alongside the new phones. The iPhone 17 Air may debut in light blue, while the Pro model could arrive in a copper orange finish. Dummy units of the iPhone 17 series showed up online at the end of July, which can be seen in the image below.

Moreover, new TechWoven cases are rumoured to replace the unpopular FineWoven line, and Apple may introduce crossbody straps and lanyard-compatible cases aimed at lifestyle users. For those who can't remember, the FineWoven cases were kind of a disaster, to the point that Apple dropped the whole thing within a short period of time.

Bonus: Apple Watch Ultra 3 and AirPods Pro 3

Lastly, the upcoming Apple Event may also unveil Apple Watch Ultra 3, which could feature satellite connectivity for emergency use. AirPods Pro 3 are expected to introduce in-ear heart rate tracking, improved active noise cancellation, and a sleeker design.
