Aditya Dhar backs Hanuman Ansh as film crosses Rs 140 crore worldwide

Aditya Dhar has backed Hanuman Ansh on Instagram after Varun Dhawan urged audiences to watch the film in theatres. The public endorsements come as the low-budget film based on Neem Karoli Baba's life continues a strong run at the Indian box office.

Dhurandhar director Aditya Dhar has shown his support for Hanuman Ansh, adding another Bollywood voice to the growing appreciation for the Vishal Chaturvedi directorial. Dhar shared the film’s poster on his Instagram Stories, tagging Chaturvedi and adding an Om, love and folded-hands emojis.

The shoutout comes as Hanuman Ansh continues its unexpected run at the box office. The film has crossed Rs 140 crore gross globally, a striking result for a film made on a reported budget of around Rs 2 crore. Without saying much, Dhar let his Story do the talking. His praise comes shortly after actor Varun Dhawan also urged audiences to watch the film.

Varun Dhawan watched Hanuman Ansh in a theatre with his mother and shared a video praising the film, saying that nobody had asked him to make the video and calling the experience “something divine”. He also praised lead actor Shobhinaw Satyaa and director Vishal Chaturvedi.

The film’s success has been particularly notable because it arrived in theatres without the kind of large-scale promotion usually associated with a box-office hit. Strong word of mouth appears to have helped it find a wider audience, with the film earning Rs 122.13 crore net in India in 31 days.

For Chaturvedi, the response has also brought calls from several Bollywood personalities who congratulated him after the film began doing well. In a recent appearance on The Raunac Podcast, the director spoke about people who had reached out after the success despite not supporting him when he had approached them for help.

He specifically mentioned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who congratulated him despite Chaturvedi never having asked him for support. Chaturvedi chose not to name the others, saying he had approached them for help in the past but they had not come through.

Hanuman Ansh is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba and is now running in theatres.
