A 26-year-old crew member died, and three others were injured in a freak accident on the sets of actor-director SJ Suryah's upcoming film Killer at Binny Mills in Perambur, Chennai, on Tuesday morning. The incident took place during a shoot for a bomb-blast sequence. Police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation.
The makers of Killer are yet to issue a statement regarding the on-set accident.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 5 am on Wednesday when a gas cylinder being used for the scene allegedly exploded, claiming the life of crew member, Madan. Police and rescue personnel reached the spot soon after and carried out relief operations.
Madhan, who was working at the location, suffered severe injuries in the blast. He was taken to hospital immediately but died during treatment.Three more crew members, Dhinakaran, Surya, Sakthivel, were injured in the incident were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored.
Authorities have begun an enquiry into the cause of the explosion and whether the required safety protocols were in place during the filming of the sequence. Officials are also looking into the possibility of a technical malfunction.
The accident has left members of the film's crew and others in the industry shocked. Several people have expressed condolences to Madhan's family as the enquiry into the incident continues.
