Manchester City has announced that Erling Haaland has signed a new historic 10-year contract, extending his stay at the club until 2034. The 24-year-old Norwegian striker, who was previously contracted until June 2027, will now remain at the Etihad until the age of 34. Haaland, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been a phenomenal force in front of goal, scoring 111 goals in 126 appearances for the club.
He played a pivotal role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign during his debut season under Pep Guardiola, helping secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles. In his first season in England, Haaland shattered records, scoring 36 goals in the Premier League and 52 across all competitions. He continued his prolific form last season, netting 27 goals in the league as City clinched their fourth consecutive Premier League title. This season, Haaland has already scored 16 league goals, underlining his status as one of the most lethal strikers in the world.
What Haaland said about his new deal
Haaland expressed his delight at signing the new deal and claimed he was super proud to secure his long-term future with City. The Norwegian also said it was an easy decision for him to sign the new deal and now he can completely focus on helping the side.
"I am super proud and happy, and I am looking forward to staying here for a long time," Haaland said in a statement.
"In the end, speaking with the people I spoke with, the hunger and the support that I have been getting for the last couple of years from the board, from the bosses and from Pep, it was an easy decision. I am delighted.
"Now I can fully focus on getting better because I am going to stay here for such a long time."
Haaland's new deal is a Premier League record as it eclipses Cole Palmer's 9-year contract he had signed with Chelsea last August. The striker's deal comes months after Pep Guardiola also extended his contract with City.
Haaland has currently scored 16 goals in the ongoing Premier League season, 2 behind golden boot leader Mohamed Salah.
