Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that the party would introduce a scheme to provide free electricity and water to tenants if it wins the Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Kejriwal said, "We have provided free electricity and water to residents of Delhi. However, it is unfortunate that tenants do not get these benefits. Today, I want to announce that if our government is formed after the elections, we will introduce a system to provide free electricity and water for tenants."
"Most tenants in Delhi are from Purvanchal, and many of them are very poor. They face financial hardships as they are unable to avail the subsidies. To address this, we will begin providing free electricity and water for the tenants as well if we come to power again," he added.
The AAP, which is aiming for a hat-trick in the capital, has announced several schemes to woo voters ahead of the February 5 polls.
One of the most important schemes announced by the party is the promise to double the monthly grant for women voters in Delhi from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100 if it wins the elections.
The party has also promised free healthcare for residents above 60 under the 'Sanjeevani Yojana.
It has also promised an honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month for priests and granthis of gurdwara under its Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana.
The AAP has also promised to provide life and accident insurance worth Rs 15 lakh for autorickshaw drivers, who have been a significant support base for the party since its poll debut in 2013, if it comes to power in the capital.
Apart from insurance, it has also promised financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for their daughters' weddings, and a Rs 2,500 uniform allowance twice a year for the autorickshaw drivers.
Elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8.
