TV actor Rohit Chandel arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing a minor

Mumbai Police arrested television actor Rohit Chandel after a 16-year-old girl accused him of alleged stalking, molestation and assault. He has been booked under the POCSO Act and BNS sections, with the investigation continuing.

Television actor Rohit Chandel, best known for his roles in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, Pandya Store and Sairaab, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly molesting and stalking a 16-year-old girl. The actor was taken into custody on Friday, July 10 and has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the police, the complaint was filed by the girl from Mumbai's eastern suburbs. In her statement, she alleged that Chandel repeatedly called her on her mobile phone and continued to contact and harass her using multiple phone numbers.

The complaint further alleged that on July 5, the actor followed her near her residence, confronted her, verbally abused her and physically assaulted her. Police officials said the accused and the minor were known to each other.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Chandel under the POCSO Act. He has also been charged under Sections 78 (stalking) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Chandel, 29, was arrested from his residence in Dahisar and was later produced before a Special POCSO Court, which remanded him to police custody.

Confirming the development, a police official said that the actor was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the minor and that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Meanwhile, Rohit Chandel is known for playing Bajirao in the historical television series Kashibai Bajirao Ballal and Dhaval Makwana in the popular daily soap Pandya Store. Before entering the entertainment industry, Chandel used to play professional cricket for the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) and also represented his district in martial arts.
