Triumph Bonneville T40, T40 Black unveiled with 350cc engine and modern tech
Triumph Motorcycles has introduced the new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, bringing the brand’s iconic Bonneville styling to its 350cc motorcycle range. The two models combine traditional design elements such as a teardrop fuel tank, round headlamp, spoke wheels and twin rear shocks with modern rider aids and connectivity features.
The new motorcycles are powered by a liquid-cooled 350cc single-cylinder TR Series engine. A revised cylinder head and a dedicated engine tune for the Bonneville produce 29bhp at 7,000rpm and 31.2Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. Triumph says the engine has been tuned to deliver stronger low-end torque and a relaxed power delivery.
The T40 and T40 Black get three riding modes — Road, Rain and Eco — along with two customisable modes. The modes alter throttle response, traction control and ABS settings. The motorcycles also feature cruise control, lean-sensitive cornering ABS and cornering traction control.
Classic Bonneville design
The Bonneville T40 retains the familiar proportions associated with the larger Bonneville models. Its design features a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, round LED headlamp with DRL, long mudguards, a peashooter-style exhaust, twin rear shocks and traditional spoked wheels.
The 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels use aluminium rims with steel spokes. The motorcycle also gets classically styled front forks and a bench-style ribbed seat.
Triumph is offering the T40 in three two-tone colour combinations: Aegean Blue with Fusion White, Meriden Blue with Tangerine Orange, and New England White with Jet Black. The paint schemes feature hand-painted coach lining.
The T40 Black takes a darker approach, with Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black finishes. It gets blacked-out engine casings and other components, while the gloss-black aluminium rims are paired with bright steel spokes.
4-inch TFT with navigation and connectivity
Despite its retro styling, the Bonneville T40 gets a comprehensive electronics package. A 4-inch circular full-colour TFT display sits inside a traditional-looking instrument housing. Riders can also select a Heritage Mode that gives the display an analogue-style appearance.
The TFT supports smartphone connectivity, music and call controls, and full map navigation through Triumph's Navigation App. Riders can plan routes, add waypoints, save destinations and import GPX files.
Other features include five customisable widgets, self-cancelling indicators, Emergency Deceleration Warning and a USB-C charging socket. The motorcycle uses full-LED lighting, including a distinctive DRL signature.
Accessible riding position
Triumph has focused on making the T40 approachable, with an upright riding position and a seat height of 790mm. An optional low seat reduces this to 770mm.
The Bonneville T40 has a ready-to-ride weight of 191kg. A centre stand is standard, while upper engine protection bars are fitted as standard on both models.
The motorcycles are also A2 licence-compliant and come with a 10,000-mile (16,000km) service interval.
The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black join Triumph's existing 400cc-based portfolio, which includes the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400, Thruxton 400 and Speed T4. Pricing and India-specific launch details have not been mentioned in the announcement.
