Four laborers who were cleaning a sump at a Goshala in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh lost their lives after being electrocuted.

Four laborers lost their lives after being electrocuted at the Sri Kali Vanashramam Goshala in Pedakakani, Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh.

According to eyewitnesses, the laborers were cleaning a sump when one of them received an electric shock while trying to repair a motor. Seeing him, three others rushed to help but got electrocuted as well.

The victims have been identified as Gandala Manikyala Rao (28), Tajesh (35), Balaiah (45) and Kali Babu (50). Out of which three hailed from Tenali and one from Sattenapalli. Their bodies were sent to the Government General Hospital in Guntur for post-mortem.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Satish Kumar visited the site and started an investigation. “The goshala staff regularly cleaned the sump. A worker was fixing a faulty motor when he got electrocuted. The others who tried to save him also died,” he said.

A case has been registered, and police are investigating further.

Nearly four months ago, a similar incident of electrocution had occurred in the Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, claiming four lives and leaving one critically injured.

In 2024, a video of an elderly man in Chennai was electrocuted while plucking coconuts had surfaced on the internet. CCTV footage from the area showed Gunasekaran falling from the compound wall as the electricity was shut down. After getting information about the incident, a team of Chennai Police reached the spot and sent Gunasekaran's body for postmortem at Kilpauk Government Hospital.
