The trailer of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is out. Directed by David Dhawan, the comedy stars Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. The trailer sets up a fast-paced comic story centred on relationships, misunderstandings and a double life that quickly spirals out of control.
The film’s trailer opens in a courtroom, where the characters played by Varun Dhawan and Mrunal Thakur are seeking a divorce. When the judge asks Varun’s character to explain the reason for the separation, he lists everything that makes him a loving husband, before the core issue emerges: his desire to have children.
The situation takes a turn when Varun’s character later meets Pooja Hegde’s character at a club and instantly falls for her. The three-minute, 15-second trailer then introduces its main twist, with both Pooja and Mrunal’s characters ending up pregnant with Varun’s child.
Chaos and confusion follow
From there, the trailer follows Varun’s character as he tries to stop the two women from crossing paths while managing his double life. The scenes are built around misunderstandings, cover-ups and a string of comic situations as he moves between both women and attempts to keep the truth hidden.
The trailer also carries shades of the 2005 film Garam Masala, especially in scenes where Varun’s character scrambles to hide signs of one relationship from the other. In one such moment, he is seen trying to conceal Mrunal’s handbag from Pooja inside the same apartment, adding to the confusion.
Another key part of the trailer is its use of the songs Chunari Chunari and the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai title track, which bring in a strong 90s recall. The film takes its title from the popular song Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai from the 1999 comedy Biwi No.1, which starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen.
