Bahraich violence: Demolition notice issued for main accused's house

The Public Works Department (PWD) has issued notice to Abdul Hameed, the main accused in the Bahraich violence case, over illegal construction. Hameed, along with four others, is currently in judicial custody for his involvement in the violent events that led to the death of a 22-year-old during Durga Puja procession in the Uttar Pradesh district.

The notice, posted on Abdul Hameed's property, is in response to illegal construction on government land. The house, allegedly built encroaching on a rural road, has been ordered to be demolished within three days. The PWD has directed the removal of the structure, which stands 60 feet from the center of the road, in violation of public land regulations.

This action follows the recent violence in the Maharajganj area of Bahraich, where 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra was killed during confrontation between two communities. The incident triggered widespread unrest, including arson and vandalism.

Hameed, along with other accused, is said to be directly involved in the confrontation, which escalated tensions in the area.

His two sons, Sarfaraz and Faheem, had tried to flee to Nepal days after the incident but were shot during an encounter with the police. They were injured in their legs.

A local court has placed Hameed and his co-accused in judicial custody following their arrest.

Police have arrested a total of 60 individuals in connection with the violence, and the district remains under strict security surveillance, with drones and police forces patrolling the area.
