The Madgaon-Karwar Express has been flagged off from Madgaon Railway Station, marking a new chapter in rail connectivity between Goa and Karnataka's coastal districts. Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, launched the new service on June 11, with the aim of making travel more convenient and affordable for passengers across the Konkan region.
The train is expected to benefit commuters, students, tourists and business travellers while also supporting tourism, trade and economic activity in both states.
BETTER CONNECTIVITY FOR GOA AND KARNATAKA
The new train service strengthens rail links between Goa and the coastal districts of Karnataka, offering passengers a more efficient travel option.
The route is expected to improve access between key destinations and make daily travel easier for people who regularly commute between the two regions.
Speaking at the event, Shri V. Somanna said Indian Railways has been expanding and modernising its network with a focus on improving connectivity and passenger experience.
He added that the Madgaon-Karwar Express is part of efforts to meet public demand and strengthen regional transport links.
BOOST FOR TOURISM AND LOCAL ECONOMY
Goa Public Works Department Minister Shri Digambar Kamat welcomed the launch of the service, describing it as the fulfilment of a long-standing demand from people in Goa and neighbouring districts of Karnataka.
He said the train would benefit daily commuters, senior citizens, students and tourists.
According to officials, better rail connectivity is also expected to support tourism, commerce and employment opportunities across the Goa-Karnataka corridor.
The service could help strengthen economic ties between the two regions while encouraging more movement of people and businesses.
