  • Mominul is 2nd Bangladeshi to hit Test hundred in India

Mominul Haque became only the second Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century in India on Monday, the fourth day of the second Test in Kanpur. The 35-year-old scored his 13th Test century in 172 balls with a sweep shot along the ground through backward square leg against Ashwin, joining Mushfiqur Rahim on the list of Bangladesh centurions away from India.

The batter returned to the crease after missing two and a half days of play at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium due to rain. His knock had 16 fours and one six. The southpaw took his time early in the day, leaving balls outside the stump line. When the spinners were introduced, the Bangladesh hitter made his intentions known by hitting sweep strokes at regular intervals. The former captain's century propelled Bangladesh to 205/6 in 66 overs, with only five sessions remaining in the Test.

Kanpur Test, Day 4 Updates

Mominul Haque, coming in at number three, played a crucial role in stabilizing Bangladesh's innings after a shaky start at 29/2. He formed a valuable 51-run partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, providing a much-needed reprieve for the team. However, after Shanto's dismissal, Mominul found little support from the other end but managed to hold the innings together. His resilience was on display as he remained unbeaten on 40 at the close of Day 1, giving Bangladesh hope despite the top-order collapse. Unfortunately, the second and third days of the match were abandoned, leaving the game in a precarious situation.

In his 65th Test, Mominul continues to be a significant contributor to Bangladesh's cricketing success, having amassed over 4,200 runs at an impressive average of over 37. With 13 centuries and 19 half-centuries to his name, he ranks as Bangladesh's fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket, trailing only behind stalwarts like Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Shakib Al Hasan.
