India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, welcomed their second child, a baby boy, on Friday, November 15, sources have confirmed to India Today. The couple, who are already parents to their daughter Samaira, born in 2018, are yet to officially share the joyous news with their fans and followers. Rohit took a paternity break to be by his wife’s side for the birth of their son, missing training sessions in Australia ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The couple had managed to keep Ritika’s pregnancy under wraps for a considerable period. It was only recently, amidst the uncertainty surrounding Rohit's participation in the 1st Test in Perth, that the news became public. As Rohit and Ritika celebrate the arrival of their new family member, it remains to be seen whether the Indian skipper will join the team in time for the series opener. His absence could pose challenges for Team India, but the joy of welcoming a new life takes precedence. Fans and teammates alike will be eager to see if Rohit can balance his family responsibilities with his cricketing commitments during this crucial series.

Rohit gets in groove for Australia Tests

Hence, the India captain decided to be with his family for the special moment which could well see him miss the first Test. Despite being away from the team, the opening batter is making sure to keep himself ready for the all-important Test series as he was spotted practising in the nets in Mumbai.

While addressing the press conference ahead of India's departure, head coach Gautam Gambhir also revealed there was no confirmation of Rohit Sharma’s availability for the first Test but remained hopeful on his availability.

However, it has also emerged that Rohit Sharma might be heading to play the first Test in Perth if things go according to plan back home. The BCCI is ensuring all arrangements are in place for a thumbs up from the India captain in the eleventh hour.

Rohit's poor show in Test cricket

The announcement of Rohit Sharma missing the first Test stirred controversy, with former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar suggesting that Rohit should relinquish his captaincy for the remainder of the series if unavailable for the opener. In contrast, former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch came to Rohit’s defence, emphasising the significance of prioritising family during such a special moment. Finch's supportive comments gained further attention when Ritika Sajdeh liked a post featuring his statement.

Rohit and Ritika become parents for 2nd time

Rohit and Ritika got married on December 13, 2015 in a lavish wedding gala which was attended by the big-wigs of cricket, sports and the entertainment world. Three years later, the couple welcomed Samaira in 2018 and six years later they became proud parents again to their son.
