Shubman Gill produced a batting masterclass in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The right-hander has been in sublime form throughout the series, amassing 424 runs in just three innings at an astonishing average of 141.33.

Following his 147 at Headingley in Leeds, the 25-year-old lit up Edgbaston with a brilliant innings. Now leading the Indian team as captain, Gill scored a commanding 269 off 387 balls, laced with 30 fours and three sixes.

His heroics powered India to a massive total of 587 in 151 overs. Gill received solid support from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 87, and Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 89. Washington Sundar also chipped in with a valuable unbeaten 42.

1 - Shubman Gill set the record for the highest score by an Indian captain in Test cricket. He went past Virat Kohli’s 254 not out in the Pune Test against South Africa in 219.

1 - Shubman Gill set the record for the highest score by an Indian batter in Tests in England. He went past Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 back in 1979 at the Kennington Oval in London.

3 - Shubman Gill racked up the third-highest score by an Indian batter in overseas Tests. Virender Sehwag’s 309 against Pakistan in 2004 remains the highest, followed by Rahul Dravid’s 270 on the same tour.

1 - Shubman Gill racked up the highest score by an Asian captain in SENA countries. He went past Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 193 against England at Lord’s in 2011.

3 - Shubman Gill notched the third-highest score by an Asian batter in SENA countries. Zaheer Abbas’ 274 against England in 1971 tops the list, followed by Javed Miandad’s 271 against New Zealand in 1989.

5 - Shubman Gill hammered the fifth-highest score at Edgbaston. Alastair Cook’s 294 against India in 2011 tops the list, followed by Peter May’s 285 not out against West Indies in 1957, Graeme Smith’s 277 against England in 2003 and Zaheer Abbas’ 274 against England in 1971.

4 - India got their fourth-highest Test score in England. The top three are 664 (2007 at Kennington Oval), 628 for 8 dec (2002 at Leeds) and 606 for nine (1990 at Kennington Oval)
