- Continuing the story after Drishyam 2 proved difficult for the team
- Abhishek Pathak spent nearly two-and-a-half years shaping the screenplay with writers
- Ajay said the script balances franchise twists with a natural ending
Ajay Devgn has confirmed that Drishyam 3 will bring the popular franchise to an end, with the actor hoping to leave the story on a high rather than stretch it further. At the film’s trailer launch, Ajay also revealed that he is keen for Mohanlal, who leads the original Malayalam Drishyam films, to watch the Hindi third instalment.
Speaking at the trailer launch of the film, the actor said finding a story that could continue the narrative after Drishyam 2 was a major challenge. He also praised director Abhishek Pathak for developing a script that convinced the team to bring the story to a close.
Ajay explained that making another sequel was not an easy decision because the story had to continue from exactly where the previous film ended while maintaining the twists and intrigue that audiences expect from the franchise.
He said the idea for the third film eventually came from Abhishek, who then spent around two-and-a-half years working with writers on the script.
Ajay said he believed the resulting screenplay was strong enough to take the franchise forward while also providing a natural conclusion to the story. He added that the team felt it was better to end the franchise on a high rather than attempt to stretch it further.
According to Ajay, Abhishek has grown as a filmmaker since Drishyam and has done a “fabulous job” not only with the writing but also with the execution of the film.
Ajay Devgn wants Mohanlal to watch Drishyam 3
Ajay also spoke about the connection between the Hindi Drishyam films and the original Malayalam franchise, which stars Mohanlal.
The actor said Drishyam 3 has a completely different script from Mohanlal's Drishyam 3. He pointed out that while the second Hindi film was, in some ways, inspired by the original Malayalam film, the upcoming instalments are taking different paths.
Ajay expressed his eagerness to show the film to Mohanlal, whom he referred to as “Lal sir”. He said he would be very happy if Mohanlal and his team watched the film, adding that he was “dying to show them the film”.
