Cocktail 2 box office Day 3: Kriti-Shahid's film ends weekend on a high note

A strong Sunday helped actors Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna and Shahid Kapoor's Cocktail 2 maintain its momentum at the box office. Here's a look at the film's Day 3 collections and weekend performance.

Cocktail 2, starring Kriti Sanon, Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, recorded a strong first weekend at the box office. According to trade website Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 76.25 crore worldwide in gross collections by the end of Day 3, including Rs 57 crore gross in India and Rs 19.25 crore overseas. It's overall India nett collection stood at 47.50 crore across 31,542 shows.

The film showed growth throughout its opening weekend. On its first Friday, the romantic comedy film earned Rs 16.20 crore gross and Rs 13.50 crore nett. On Saturday, it collected Rs 19.50 crore gross and Rs 16.25 crore nett. On Sunday, the figures rose to Rs 21.20 crore gross and Rs 17.50 crore nett.

By the end of the weekend, the film's overall gross collection in India stood at Rs 57 crore, while its overall nett collection in India was Rs 47.50 crore. Its overseas collection was Rs 19.25 crore, taking the total worldwide gross to Rs 76.25 crore.

On Sunday, the film had 10,462 shows with an occupancy of 29 per cent. The National Capital Region had the highest number of shows at 1,170, followed by Mumbai with 711 and Ahmedabad with 582.

The film held its ground despite competition from Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga. The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari and Vedang Raina, earned Rs 5.75 crore on its second Sunday, or Day 10. Its total India nett collection stood at Rs 24.25 crore and its gross collection at Rs 40.75 crore. It has earned Rs 11.7 crore globally.

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 revolves around Kunal, played by Shahid Kapoor, and Diya, played by Rashmika Mandanna, who are childhood sweethearts. Though they share a strong bond, they are hesitant about taking the next step towards marriage. Their lives take an unexpected turn during a holiday in Sicily, where they reconnect with Diya's close friend Ally, played by Kriti Sanon, who convinces them to drop their travel plans and spend time with her.

What begins as a fun-filled holiday soon turns into an emotional journey. As insecurities begin to surface, Diya starts questioning Kunal's true feelings and whether he is marrying her out of love or a sense of responsibility.
