Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that Operation Sindoor was not stopped under any pressure, dismissing repeated claims by US President Donald Trump that his threat of cutting trade with India and Pakistan brought an end to the hostilities.

Initiating the discussion in Parliament on the operation, India's response to the Pahalgam attack, Singh underlined that the armed forces halted their strikes on Pakistan as the objectives had been fully achieved.

"To say or believe that Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure is baseless and completely incorrect. India halted the operation as political and military objectives set before and during the conflict had been fully achieved," Singh said.

Trump's repeated claim (26 times) that he brokered the ceasefire had given the opposition ammo to attack the government, which has maintained that the truce was forged through direct contact.

As the Defence Minister was speaking in Parliament, around 800 km away, security forces killed the mastermind of the Pahalgam attack in an encounter in Srinagar under Operation Mahadev.

Under Operation Sindoor, the armed forces destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan, which retaliated with a wave of drone attacks. In response, India targeted 11 key military sites, including the strategic Nur Khan airbase.

The heavy damage inflicted by the strikes forced Pakistan to come up with a ceasefire offer, Singh said.

"On May 10, when the Indian Air Force struck hard at multiple airfields in Pakistan, Pakistan admitted defeat and offered to cease hostilities. They spoke to our DGMO and asked us to stop... This offer was accepted with the caveat that this operation has only been paused," the Defence Minister stressed.
