Kia Seltos hybrid showcased at Paris Motor Show 2026, India launch expected in 2027
Kia has showcased the Seltos strong hybrid at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, with the electrified midsize SUV expected to arrive in India in 2027 with a 178bhp powertrain.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayKia has showcased the strong-hybrid version of the Seltos at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, offering a glimpse of an electrified powertrain that is expected to join the SUV’s Indian line-up in 2027. The hybrid will expand the Seltos range beyond its existing petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel options, as automakers increasingly turn to electrification to improve fuel efficiency and meet tightening emission regulations.
The showcased model combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a claimed combined output of 178bhp. While the international version features all-wheel drive (AWD), the India-spec model is expected to use a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. The hybrid is likely to become an additional powertrain choice rather than replace the existing versions.
Kia Seltos hybrid: Engine, power and fuel efficiency
The Seltos hybrid on display at Paris uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine that develops 102bhp and 141Nm of torque. It works alongside an electric motor rated at 129bhp and 388Nm, with the combined system output standing at 178bhp. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) sends power to all four wheels in the showcased version.
Kia claims a fuel efficiency figure of 14.71kpl under the WLTP testing cycle. The hybrid system can also propel the SUV using electric power alone under suitable driving conditions, although the company has not specified the electric-only range in the information provided.
The India-bound version is expected to retain the core hybrid technology, potentially with changes to the drivetrain to suit the domestic market. Final specifications, fuel-efficiency figures and pricing for India have not yet been announced.
Kia Seltos hybrid: What changes on the outside and inside?
The Paris Motor Show display car is the range-topping X-Line variant, with an overall design that remains close to the Seltos sold in India. One notable feature is the powered tailgate, which is absent from the India-spec model. The hybrid's battery placement beneath the boot floor also means the showcased vehicle does not get a spare wheel.
Inside, the most prominent change is the relocation of the gear selector to a stalk on the steering column. Similar to the arrangement used in Kia's electric vehicles, this frees up room on the centre console for additional storage and cup holders.
The cabin features an all-black theme and equipment including a triple-screen arrangement, ambient lighting, a head-up display, metal pedals, wireless phone charging and leatherette upholstery. However, the equipment list may vary on the Indian version.
Kia Seltos: Existing engine options in India
The hybrid will supplement Kia's current range of three engine options. The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 115bhp and 144Nm, with manual and CVT gearbox choices. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol develops 160bhp and 253Nm and is offered with a six-speed iMT or a seven-speed DCT.
For diesel buyers, the 1.5-litre CRDi VGT engine generates 116hp and 250Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Adding a strong-hybrid option would give buyers another alternative, particularly those looking to reduce fuel consumption without switching to a fully electric vehicle.
For Kia, the Seltos hybrid would add a new dimension to one of its key models in India. More details about the Indian version, including its final specifications, fuel-efficiency figures, variant structure and pricing, are expected closer to its anticipated 2027 launch.
