The West Bengal government has announced that singing Vande Mataram will now be compulsory across schools in the state. The decision comes following the recent change in government, with directions already issued to the heads of all schools.
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister while addressing students and the public after the declaration of Class 12 examination results. The move is expected to come into effect from Monday.
The Chief Minister also congratulated students who cleared the Higher Secondary examinations and encouraged them to move forward in life with confidence and values inspired by Indian thinkers and leaders.
“I want to congratulate all those who have passed class 12 exams. They should all move ahead in life inspired by the vision of Swami Vivekananda. I would like to send my best wishes to the future generation. From Monday, all schools should sing Vande Mataram. I shall reach secretariat and issue an order,” the Chief Minister said.
NEW ORDER FOR SCHOOLS
According to the announcement, school authorities across West Bengal have already been informed about the new directive. Heads of schools are expected to ensure that the song is sung regularly from Monday onwards.
The decision marks a major cultural and administrative shift in the state’s education system after the political transition in government.
The administration has indicated that a formal order will soon be issued from the state secretariat to officially implement the instructions.
The announcement immediately drew attention because of the emotional and historical significance attached to Vande Mataram in India. The song has long been associated with the country’s freedom movement and national identity.
MESSAGE TO STUDENTS AND YOUTH
Along with the announcement, the Chief Minister’s message strongly focused on students and young people who recently completed their board examinations.
Referring to Swami Vivekananda’s ideals, the Chief Minister urged students to shape their future with discipline, confidence and dedication. The statement was presented as both a congratulatory message and a broader appeal to the younger generation.
For thousands of students returning to classrooms, the start of the week is now expected to begin with the singing of Vande Mataram under the state government’s new direction.
