The Xiaomi 15 series is confirmed to launch in India on March 2. While the company is keeping it quiet for global release, the Chinese variant will come equipped with a 1-inch main camera and a Leica 200-megapixel super telephoto lens.

Xiaomi India has announced that the 15 series, including 15 (vanilla variant) and 15 Ultra, will be launched in the country on March 2, 2025. While the details are scarce, the upcoming smartphone is expected to mimic the Chinese variant, scheduled to launch on February 27. Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has unveiled that the 15 Ultra will sport a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, featuring a f/2.6 ultra-wide aperture, a 1/1.4-inch sensor, and a 100mm equivalent focal length.

The image showcases the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, co-engineered with Leica, which aims to revolutionise low-light photography. Here, Xiaomi introduces its new "Summicron Ultra-Pure Optical System", promising to deliver clarity and precision in night shots. That said, it is noteworthy that these camera specs are out only for the Chinese variant. But, it is highly likely that the global variant of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will also follow suit.

Recently, the company has also shared the design of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. On the official Xiaomi micro-website, the design looks similar to the Chinese variant.

The official renders of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra highlight a striking dual-tone finish, seamlessly blending glass and vegan leather—a design choice inspired by classic Leica cameras. The circular rear camera module retains Xiaomi’s signature Ultra-series aesthetic, housing four sensors and an LED flash strip. Additionally, the italicised "Ultra" branding in the top-left corner of the back panel adds a refined touch, further cementing its premium look.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to launch with a larger 6.73-inch 2K micro quad-curved display for an immersive visual experience. Under the hood, it packs a massive 6,100mAh battery, supporting 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, ensuring long-lasting performance.

The phone recently appeared on the Geekbench AI database, revealing an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 16GB RAM, and the Android 15 operating system, possibly based on HyperOS 2.0.

The phone is also rumoured to offer IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings. An earlier report also hinted at the possibility of at least a 16GB RAM + 512GB storage option for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in the international market. The phone is expected to be available in black, white, and silver colours.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to launch in China at CNY 6,499 (approximately Rs 78,000 or $892), positioning it as a direct rival to premium flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, its availability and pricing in India remain uncertain. For reference, its predecessor, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, debuted in India at Rs 99,999 for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant.

Meanwhile, in China, the Xiaomi 15 starts at CNY 4,499 (around Rs 53,000), offering a more affordable flagship alternative.
