Formula 1: Lando Norris clinches Dutch Grand Prix, seals back-to-back wins

Lando Norris staged a stunning comeback at Zandvoort to beat Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton and seal back-to-back F1 victories. The McLaren driver held on with older tyres to win by 11.536 seconds, while Max Verstappen's early crash added drama to the Dutch Grand Prix.

Lando Norris produced a composed comeback at Zandvoort to win a dramatic Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, securing back-to-back Formula 1 victories and strengthening McLaren’s charge in the championship. The Briton recovered from losing the lead to Kimi Antonelli after a restart to beat the Mercedes driver and take the chequered flag.

Norris started from pole after edging George Russell and Antonelli in a tense qualifying session, but his advantage disappeared almost immediately when Max Verstappen crashed heavily on the opening lap. The home favourite lost control of his Red Bull and hit the barriers, bringing out the red flag. Verstappen was unhurt, but the incident brought an early twist to the race.

When racing resumed, Antonelli made a flying start to move ahead of Norris at Turn 1 and establish himself at the front. The Mercedes driver controlled the race for a long spell, leaving Norris with the task of chasing down the championship leader.

NORRIS TURNS THE RACE AROUND

Norris gradually closed the gap before making his decisive move on lap 54 of 72. The McLaren driver went around the outside of the first corner to pass Antonelli, before taking the lead from Lewis Hamilton during the same lap. His aggressive but controlled charge put him back in command with the finish line approaching.

A late Virtual Safety Car added another layer of uncertainty after Esteban Ocon’s Haas stopped on track. Antonelli took the opportunity to pit for fresh soft tyres, while Norris stayed out on his older rubber. The strategy gamble left Antonelli chasing Norris in the closing stages, but the McLaren driver managed to hold his advantage.

Norris eventually crossed the line 11.536 seconds ahead of Antonelli, completing his second consecutive victory after his previous triumph in Hungary. The win also gave McLaren three straight Dutch Grand Prix victories at Zandvoort.

George Russell completed the podium in third after Mercedes team orders allowed Antonelli through, while Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari. Charles Leclerc was fifth, followed by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Liam Lawson.

Antonelli, despite missing out on victory, extended his championship lead to 59 points with 242 points. Norris moved up to fourth in the standings with 159 points, keeping the title fight alive as the season enters its crucial phase.
