Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of India's Champions Trophy squad due to a back injury sustained during India's Test tour of Australia earlier in 2025. Although initially named in the preliminary 15-member squad, the BCCI selectors ultimately decided to leave him out as a precautionary measure. Young pacer Harshit Rana was named as Bumrah's replacement for the tournament.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami had been sidelined from international cricket for over 14 months due to an ankle injury that required surgery. His return was further delayed after he suffered a knee injury during the final phase of his rehabilitation.

However, Shami made a remarkable comeback on the big stage, delivering a stellar performance in the Champions Trophy. The seasoned pacer claimed five wickets in India's Group A opener against Bangladesh. He also achieved a significant milestone, becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in One-Day Internationals.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah also received the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award for 2024 from board president Jay Shah in Dubai on Sunday. Bumrah's wife, Sanjana Ganesan, who was on broadcast duties, posed with him and Shah during the award presentation ceremony.

Bumrrah was named the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2024 and the T20I Cricketer of the Year. He was also part of the Test and T20I teams of the year.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar, who was at the venue, said Bumrah meeting the Indian team will lift their morale ahead of the big game.

Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and Pakistan opted to bat first on a pitch that is expected to get slower through the game. Pakistan brought Imam-ul-Haq into the XI in place of injured Fakhar Zaman.

On the other hand, India resisted their temptation to change, backing Harshit Rana as Shami's pace-bowling partner.
