Two Women, One Convicted Rapist: The Debate Around Kuldeep Sengar

by · India Today

A convicted rapist. Two women. Two sharply different ideas of justice.

Barkha Trehan, president of Purush Aayog, has publicly supported former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was convicted in 2019 for raping a 17-year-old in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao case. Trehan argues that gender laws are misused and that Sengar has suffered enough years in custody.

Standing against her is Yogita Bhayana, anti-rape activist and founder of People Against Rape in India (PARI), who has campaigned alongside the survivor and demanded accountability after the Delhi High Court suspended Sengar’s sentence. @Jessica Goel
