Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday directed a safety audit of all city parks and deployment of Pink Police personnel around their premises following the gangrape of a 17-year-old girl at a park in Kalkaji.

The Lt Governor met MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and DDA Vice Chairman N Saravana Kumar and stressed that safe and clean parks are essential to improving the citizens' lives, his office wrote on X.

He directed that a comprehensive safety audit of all Delhi parks be conducted within a week, with emphasis on adequate lighting, security, regular patrolling and cleanliness.

"The Delhi Police was also directed to strengthen beat patrolling, including deployment of Pink Police personnel around park premises," the Lt Governor's Office said.

The measures came two days after a 17-year-old girl from Faridabad was gangraped by three men posing as policemen at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple on Monday evening.

All three accused -- Asif, Hemant and his younger brother Mukesh -- were arrested after an hours-long manhunt, Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the teenager and a male friend had visited Kalkaji Temple before going to Astha Kunj Park. Shortly after they entered the park, the three men allegedly approached them, posing as policemen, and accused the two of being minors and “doing wrong”. They threatened to register a case against them, police said.

The men then separated the girl from her friend and took her to a secluded part of the park, where they raped her one after another, police said.
