Royal Challengers Bangalore's Richa Ghosh affected a stunning run-out on the final ball of their game against UP Warriorz. Richa's quick thinking helped her team force the match into the Super Over – the first one in the history of the Women's Premier League.
Many fans on social media compared Richa's heroics to MS Dhoni, who had helped India win against Bangladesh with a similar kind of run-out back in the 2016 T20 World Cup. On Monday, Richa's quick thinking helped RCB just about defend a target of 181 runs, forcing the match into the Super Over. However, RCB gave a poor account of themselves and lost the match to UP Warriorz.
RCB vs UPW, WPL 2025: Match Report
Sophie Ecclestone stole the spotlight as UP Warriorz defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first-ever Super Over clash of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). On Monday, February 24, the Warriorz snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB has struggled at home, first losing to Mumbai Indians and then falling to the Warriorz.
Ecclestone not only proved why she is the No.1 ranked bowler in Women’s T20Is, but also displayed her remarkable batting skills. With the Warriorz needing 18 runs off the last over in their chase, Ecclestone hammered Renuka Singh for back-to-back sixes, followed by a four, to force the match into a Super Over.
With one run required off the final ball, Richa Ghosh ran Ecclestone out, ensuring RCB got another chance in the one-over eliminator.
But once again, Ecclestone stepped up for the Warriorz. Kim Garth bowled with precision to the power hitters Grace Harris and Chinelle Henry, conceding just eight runs. In the Super Over, Ecclestone allowed only four runs while bowling against Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana. In a surprising move, RCB chose not to send Ellyse Perry to bat in the Super Over, despite her brilliant knock of 90* off 56 balls in the first innings.
