Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the police action against students during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) 'Chalo Sansad' march, accusing the government of using force to silence those raising questions over examination irregularities.

Calling PM Modi "the most anti-youth Prime Minister in India's history", the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged that the government has been shielding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan despite repeated controversies over paper leaks.

"Prime Minister Modi is so anti-youth that he cannot even seek the resignation of a failed Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan," Gandhi said in a video message.

Gandhi claimed that 152 leaked examination papers have affected 7.5 crore students, alleging that no one responsible for the irregularities has been punished so far.

Taking aim at the police action during Monday's protest, he said students raising legitimate concerns about the education system were met with "batons and detention" instead of answers.

"Those responsible for paper leaks are free, while students raising genuine issues are dragged away and beaten," Gandhi said. He further alleged that the government was not only failing the country's youth but was "turning against them".

The Leader of Opposition's remarks came on a day when the CJP's 'Chalo Sansad' march witnessed clashes between protesters and Delhi Police as participants attempted to move towards Parliament.

The march, organised by the two-month-old outfit over alleged NEET-UG irregularities and wider examination reforms, was stopped near Parliament Street after protesters refused to disperse despite police action. Several protesters alleged that force was used against them during the clashes.

Earlier in the day, CJP representatives met Union Health Minister JP Nadda and submitted a memorandum seeking the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation for families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak.
