Apple is launching iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, here is everything you can expect from it

The iPhone 18 Pro is shaping up to be far more than another yearly refresh, with a new A20 Pro chip, bigger battery, smarter cameras and a smaller Dynamic Island. Here's what we know so far.

Apple has finally confirmed the date for its next major product launch, corroborating the previous rumours, on September 9. On the day, the company will host one of its biggest events at 10:AM PT, and Indians can view the event from 10:30 pm IST. That's when the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's much-rumoured foldable, the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, are expected to arrive, alongside new Apple Watches and refreshed AirPods.

A fresh coat of paint

Let's talk looks first, since that's what everyone notices before they even check the specs. Apple is rumoured to be swapping out its colour lineup with shades like dark cherry, light blue, and silver, possibly sending the classic black finish into retirement. Don't expect Apple to reinvent the wheel on design though. The flat-edged frame and triple-camera layout are expected to carry over largely unchanged. The one genuinely new visual detail up front could be a smaller Dynamic Island, giving that little pill-shaped cutout something to actually brag about this year.

The chip is doing all the heavy lifting

If this year's Pro lineup has a headline act, it's the A20 Pro chip. Apple is expected to manufacture it using TSMC's 2nm process alongside newer Gate-All-Around transistor technology, which is less marketing buzzword and more of a genuine manufacturing leap. Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital claims the chip could be around 18 percent faster than the A19 Pro while using up to 30 percent less power, numbers that sound almost suspiciously good on paper. In practice, that kind of jump could mean heavier AI tasks and more demanding games running smoothly without your phone turning into a tiny space heater by lunchtime.

Naturally, better silicon rarely comes cheap, and reports suggest the A20 Pro could meaningfully drive up the iPhone 18 Pro's production costs, which conveniently sets up our next point.

Battery life gets a real boost

This year's battery upgrade looks like one of the more tangible wins. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to house a 5,425mAh battery in its eSIM-only version, with the physical-SIM variant getting 5,235mAh, both comfortably ahead of the 5,088mAh and 4,823mAh cells reportedly used in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That's roughly a 10 percent increase on paper.

But bigger capacity is only half the equation. Apple is also expected to debut its new C2 modem, continuing its gradual split from Qualcomm. An Apple-built modem means better control over power draw and network performance, the kind of upgrade that never gets its own keynote slide but quietly makes your daily battery life noticeably better.

Cameras

For years, Apple's Pro cameras have used a fixed aperture, and that finally looks set to change. A variable-aperture main camera functions a bit like your eye's pupil, narrowing when there's plenty of light and opening up when things get dim, handing photographers real control over depth of field and exposure.

Here's the twist, though. Tipster Ice Universe suggests this feature might be reserved exclusively for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, since the hardware apparently needs more internal room than the smaller Pro can spare. Both models are still expected to stick with three 48-megapixel rear sensors and an 18-megapixel Center Stage selfie camera, suggesting Apple's focus this year is on smarter optics and computational photography rather than chasing bigger megapixel counts.

There's also chatter that the Camera Control button, first introduced on the iPhone 16 series, could be simplified by trimming down some of its fiddlier touch-sensitive functions. Sometimes the best upgrade isn't a new feature, it's just fixing something that annoyed everyone.

Display and a Satellite Surprise

On the display front, Apple is expected to move to LTPO+ panel technology, allowing for more precise control over the screen and better power efficiency. Paired with that smaller Dynamic Island, the front of the iPhone 18 Pro could genuinely look tidier than its predecessor.

There's also talk of Apple pushing further into satellite-based 5G connectivity, building on the emergency satellite features already available on current iPhones. If this comes together, it could mean more reliable internet access in areas without traditional cell coverage, though as always with satellite tech, how useful it actually feels will come down to where you live and what infrastructure is actually in place.

iPhone 18 Pro series price

Here's the part that might sting a little. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is considering raising the US starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro to around $1,199. In India, early estimates point to a starting price of roughly Rs. 1,39,900, up from the iPhone 17 Pro's Rs. 1,34,900, with some leaks suggesting the increase could stretch anywhere from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 depending on which model and storage tier you go for. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to start around Rs. 1,54,900.

It’s worth noting that none of these pieces of information about specs and features has been confirmed by the Cupertino-based tech giant. However, there is a chance that, similar to the launch date, this information could turn out to be true. And if a handful of these leaks prove accurate, that means iPhone 18 Pro got the rare Pro upgrade amidst the ongoing crisis in the mobile industry. But until then, we suggest taking these details with a pinch of salt.
