Barcelona completes deadline day signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal

Barcelona have signed Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a three-year deal after a fee reported to be 8.6 million pounds. The move ends his four-year Arsenal spell as he becomes the latest player to head to Barca.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, with the 29-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year deal, the two clubs confirmed on Tuesday. The transfer fee has not been officially revealed by either side, although reports in the British media suggest Barcelona have paid around 8.6 million pounds (US Dollars 11.5 million) to bring the striker to Spain.

"Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the blaugranes. The Brazilian striker signs on as a culer for three seasons," read the statement from Barcelona.

Jesus becomes Barcelona’s sixth addition of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have also brought in Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic. The move comes as Barcelona continue to be linked with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. However, Atletico are understood to be unwilling to allow the Argentina international to join one of their domestic rivals.

For Jesus, the transfer brings an end to a four-year spell at Arsenal. He arrived at the Emirates from Manchester City in 2022 and went on to feature 123 times across competitions, finding the net on 32 occasions. He also made 27 appearances during Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season.

His role in the Arsenal setup had diminished, though, with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres moving ahead of him in the competition for places in attack. Jesus enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Manchester City before joining Arsenal. During six seasons at the Etihad, he collected four Premier League titles and scored 95 goals in 236 appearances in all competitions.

Overall, the Brazilian has made more than 200 Premier League appearances and has scored over 70 goals in the competition. Arsenal also confirmed the exit of midfielder Fabio Vieira, who has completed a move to German side Hamburg.
