Angry over break-up, man pushes girlfriend into gorge in Maharashtra

A man pushed his girlfriend into a gorge near Naikwadi after she ended their relationship. He later surrendered to police after first claiming she was missing.

A 25-year-old man allegedly pushed a 23-year-old woman into a deep gorge in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district after she refused to continue their relationship following her marriage being arranged, police said. The accused later surrendered at Bhudargad police station after initially claiming that the woman was missing.

The incident took place near Naikwadi on Friday morning. The accused, identified as Shripad Dinkar Wadu, a resident of Avadhut Colony in Gargoti, has reportedly confessed to pushing the woman, Tarannum Bashir Naik, into the gorge.

HOW THE INCIDENT UNFOLDED

Shripad and Tarannum, who lived opposite each other's homes in Avadhut Colony, had been in a relationship. Tarannum was pursuing engineering studies at a college in Mahagaon.

However, after her marriage was arranged, Tarannum refused to continue the relationship, leading to disputes between the two.

At around 11 am on Friday, Shripad allegedly called Tarannum and took her to the area near the deep gorge at Naikwadi. During their conversation, she told him that her marriage had been arranged and that they could no longer continue their relationship.

Angered by her decision, Shripad allegedly pushed her into the gorge, resulting in her death.

ACCUSED SURRENDERS AFTER CLAIMING WOMAN WAS MISSING

After the incident, Shripad allegedly attempted to conceal what had happened by claiming that Tarannum was missing. He subsequently went to Bhudargad police station, where he surrendered.

Police questioned him in detail and obtained a confession, according to the information provided.

Meanwhile, Tarannum's relatives reached the district hospital in Gargoti after learning about the incident. Tension prevailed at the hospital as the family gathered there.

The Bhudargad police are investigating the case further.
