Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey at the worldwide box office within just four days of release. The superhero film has collected Rs 300 crore net in India, comfortably overtaking The Odyssey's rough Rs 135-crore collection, while also emerging as one of the biggest Hollywood openings in the country.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Brand New Day has earned Rs 306.37 crore gross and Rs 256.20 crore net in India by Day 4. On Sunday alone, the film collected Rs 76 crore net across 18,051 shows, taking its opening weekend haul past the Rs 250 crore mark.
Internationally, the film has amassed an estimated $927 million (around Rs 8,100 crore) in its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo, making it the second-biggest global opening in cinema history. It trails only Avengers: Endgame, which debuted with $1.22 billion, while moving ahead of Avengers: Infinity War, which opened to $640.5 million worldwide.
The opening weekend has far exceeded Sony's initial global projection of $425 million. While the film is unlikely to breach the $1 billion mark during its opening frame, trade estimates suggest it could achieve the milestone within the next few days.
The film has also become the biggest global opener in the Spider-Man franchise, overtaking Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had opened to $600.5 million worldwide. The record-breaking debut also marks the biggest opening of the careers of director Destin Daniel Cretton, Zendaya and Sony Pictures.
Of its worldwide earnings, $572 million came from 66 international markets across 73,500 screens. In India, it has delivered the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood release and the sixth-largest opening of all time across languages.
The film was shot entirely for the ScreenX format, marking the first collaboration between CJ 4DPLEX and filmmakers from on-set production through theatrical exhibition.
In comparison, The Odyssey opened at around Rs 20 crore in India and has collected around Rs 135 crore in the country so far. Globally, the film grossed over Rs 2,700 crore in four days.
