- The trailer for Robert De Niro's Focker-In-Law has released
- Ben Stiller's character now becomes the father-in-law
- Ariana Grande stars as the son's fiancée in new film
The trailer for Focker-In-Law has been released, marking the return of the beloved comedy series. Twenty-six years after audiences first witnessed Greg Focker, played by actor Ben Stiller, navigate the trials set by his prospective father-in-law, Jack (actor Robert De Niro), in Meet the Parents (2000), the tables have turned.
Now, Greg himself is stepping into the father-in-law role.
The film introduces singer-actor Ariana Grande as the fiancee of Greg's son, who must prove herself as the ideal partner. Fans can expect the same humorous and awkward family dynamics that made the franchise a hit.
Returning cast and new ensemble
The original cast members, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, and Teri Polo, will be reprising their roles. New faces like Skyler Gisondo and Beanie Feldstein are set to join the ensemble as Focker-In-Law promises to deliver laughs and family antics.
Returning to their iconic roles, De Niro plays the overprotective Jack Byrnes, while Stiller continues as the lovable yet stern Greg Focker. Ariana joins the cast as Olivia Jones, a former FBI hostage negotiator and potential bride-to-be.
Focker-In-Law at Cinemacon
The trailer, which was unveiled at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, saw Stiller and De Niro talking about the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, as Stiller made his way to the stage on his own, he joked that the makers planned a “fully intentional 15-year-break between movies three and four.” He pointed out that he is now roughly the same age that De Niro was in the 2000 film. “I guess you could say I’m the new De Niro of the franchise,” he added.
De Niro joined him on the stage, saying, “Don’t say that. It’s very disrespectful.” “You made a very unflattering comparison that forced me to defend my honor,” he added.
Praising Ariana, De Niro told Stiller, “She got an Oscar nomination. How many of those do you have?” He then added, “I didn’t write this.”
Release date and franchise legacy
The film is written and directed by John Hamburg and serves as the fourth instalment in the Fockers series. The first film was followed by Meet The Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010). Now, Focker-In-Law is scheduled for release on November 25, 2026.
The Meet the Parents trilogy was a box office success, grossing over $1.13 billion worldwide.
