- Set in Meerut, the film mixes family drama, horror-comedy and folklore
The teaser of Yami Gautam Dhar’s upcoming film Nayyi Navelli is out. Directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, the film combines family drama, horror-comedy and elements of Indian folklore. It is scheduled to release in theatres across India on October 16, 2026.
The teaser opens with a family member making a rather serious accusation: “Bhabhi dayan hai!” He goes on to insist that he is not speaking in riddles and that his sister-in-law is, in fact, a witch. His dramatic description of her as a “100% Ramsay Brothers wali saakshaat dayan” is followed by a slap from his brother.
Yami Gautam is then introduced as Mohini, who appears to be far more familiar with the supernatural than the family might expect.
“Bas dayan? Do dayan, teen pisaach aur chaar bhoot toh main subah nashte mein kha jati hoon(Just a witch? I could eat two witches, three demons and four ghosts for breakfast),” she says in the teaser.
The teaser also hints at the film's unusual take on the family-entertainer format. Set in Meerut, the story revolves around a seemingly picture-perfect bride whose arrival brings some peace to a chaotic household. However, things take a turn when her brother-in-law starts suspecting that she could be a Daayan in disguise.
Towards the end of the teaser, Yami's character breaks the fourth wall and tells viewers, “Deviyon aur sajjanon, a little request. THINK BIG.”
Nayyi Navelli marks a collaboration between director Balaji Mohan and writers Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film has music by G V Prakash Kumar.
Alongside Yami Gautam Dhar and Addinath M Kothare, the cast includes Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee, Sonal Jha, Suneel Sinha, Prateek Pachori, Akshat Singh, Babita Pandey, Ajay Pal and Neeraj Singh.
Produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Colour Yellow Productions in association with Amazon MGM Studios, Nayyi Navelli will release in cinemas on October 16, ahead of Dussehra.
