Amaran box office Day 16: Sivakarthikeyan's film unaffected by Kanguva craze

Amaran entered its third weekend at the box office, with a steady collection on both Thursday and Friday. The biographical drama starring Sivakarthikeyan appears to have been largely unaffected by the release of Suriya's Kanguva.

  • Amaran continued its strong performance in theatres
  • The film remains largely unaffected by Suriya's Kanguva release
  • Its total collection reached Rs 175.60 crore in 16 days

Actor Sivakarthikeyan's biographical drama, Amaran, continues to perform well in theatres. The film has entered its third weekend at the box office and the collections show a steady performance. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film shows hardly any impact on its run with the release of Suriya's action fantasy drama, Kanguva.

The Siva-directorial was released in theatres this weekend amid a massive trend, and it was expected to deter the smooth run of Amaran. However, the Thursday and Friday collections this week showed that the military-based film is standing well on its feet at the domestic box office.

On its third Friday, Amaran earned around Rs 3.50 crore nett, which is in the same range of what it collected on its third Thursday - Rs 3.25 crore. It has minted a whopping Rs 175.60 crore nett in 16 days.

  • Week 1: Rs 114.85 crore
  • Week 2: Rs 57.25 crore
  • Friday: Rs 3.50 crore
  • Total: Rs 175.60 crore

Interestingly, Kanguva witnessed a major drop in its collection on the second day at the box office. While a slight dip was expected, the business registered around a 50 per cent drop, which seems concerning.

Suriya's film is expected to recover this gap in numbers on Saturday and Sunday, but it will be interesting to see how Amaran responds to Kanguva's performance during this weekend. The film is expected to go past the benchmark of Rs 200 crore nett in India during its lifetime run.
