Gurugram hit-and-run accused Kalyan Bainsla tried to flee police on the pretext of urinating after his arrest in Rajasthan, but fell and suffered minor injuries. Police have added an attempt-to-murder charge based on CCTV footage and also invoked stalking and outraging modesty provisions.

Kalyan Bainsla, the accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case involving a woman biker, tried to escape from police on the pretext of going to urinate after he was arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa, police said. He fell while trying to flee, sustained minor injuries and was given preliminary treatment at a hospital.

The Gurugram Police have added an attempt-to-murder charge against Kalyan, accused of hitting a woman biker with a car on Golf Course Road, after analysing CCTV footage of the incident.

Bainsla, 33, a resident of Chandhat in Haryana’s Palwal, was arrested from the area between Dausa and Rajgarh in Rajasthan on September 15 after three special police teams worked through the night to track him down. He had allegedly switched off his mobile phone and fled after the incident.

According to police, the accused car driver had given interviews to the media about the case before switching off his mobile phone and going on the run.

Before going incognito, Bainsla also spoke to India Today. In an exclusive conversation with India Today TV, he said he had not intentionally hit the bikers.

He said he was instead asking the bikers to slow down and had not attempted to hit them.

BAINSLA HURLED SLURS AT WOMAN BIKER

According to the police, Kalyan Bainsla had passed indecent remarks at the woman biker before allegedly hitting her, PTI reported.

While addressing the media, Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the survivor had alleged that Bainsla had hurled abuses at her just before the incident.

After a detailed investigation and analysis of CCTV footage, police added Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to attempt to murder, to the case.

POLICE ADD STALKING, MODESTY CHARGES

During the investigation, the survivor's statement was also recorded, following which Section 78 of the BNS, relating to stalking, and Section 79 of the BNS, concerning words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, were added.

Police said Bainsla intentionally hit the woman with the car. The accused had also given interviews to the media about the case before switching off his mobile phone and fleeing to evade arrest, following which three teams were formed to trace him.

The Crime Branch Sohna team arrested Bainsla on September 15 from Rajasthan. Police also recovered the car allegedly used in the incident, which is registered in the name of his friend.

Another person who was with Bainsla has also been detained and is being questioned to ascertain his role in the incident. Further action will be taken in accordance with law and the investigation is ongoing.
